JOIN A CLINICAL STUDY
Recruiting Participants with Major Depressive Disorder for a Paid Observational Biomarker Study
Are you starting TMS or Spravato treatment at Acacia Clinics? You may be eligible to participate in our research study.
Kernel is conducting a study at Acacia Clinics with a revolutionary technology that can non-invasively measure brain activity in real time. Patients who are starting TMS or SPRAVATO® (esketamine) for depression at Acacia may be eligible for this study and receive a summary of their brain results.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE
Joining a clinical trial is an important and personal decision. Thank you for considering this study.
This study may be an option for adults who are:
18-65 years of age
Fluent in English
Primary diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder
Are scheduled to receive TMS or Spravato treatment
There are other requirements for participation in the study. The study doctor will explain these to you.
Condition
Depression
Age
18-65 years of age
Diagnosis
Major Depressive Disorder
WHAT TO EXPECT
What would you need to do to participate?
Study length varies based on treatment and individual timelines but may last up to 3 months. The study involves 2-3 core visits to a participating clinic and may include up to 6 elective (or optional) study visits. Each core visit will take about an hour to complete and includes filling out questionnaires and wearing a headset equipped with hi-tech sensors to record brain activity while participants complete tasks. Elective study visits last up to 20 minutes.
Length of Study
Up to 3 months
Number of Study Visits
2-3 core visits, 6 elective (optional) study visits
WHY PARTICIPATE
Some benefits to participating include:
Contributing to improving mental health treatment for future patients
$25 compensation upon completing each core study visit. Total payment will be up to $75 depending on the treatment type
Receiving a summary of your brain activity at the completion of the entire study
No interference with your regular treatment
ABOUT KERNEL
This study is funded by Kernel and has been reviewed by Advarra IRB.
Kernel was founded in 2016 with the objective to improve the way the brain is measured. They evaluated every modality for measuring the brain to assess utility, scalability, ease-of-use, and technical readiness. In 2018, Kernel's team of world-class engineers and scientists began developing a technology called time-domain functional near-infrared spectroscopy, which became our first hardware product - Kernel Flow.
Flow allows for natural head motion, real-world measurements, and large scale data collection, while maintaining research-grade data quality.
They have built a software and services platform around their core hardware technology and are now on a mission to to accelerate treatment discovery, improve patient outcomes, and transform neuromedicine with precision biomarkers.
